Belle mare

Situated on the East Coast of Mauritius, in the district of Flacq, this coastal village is surrounded by Poste de Flacq, the ultimate spot for luxury hotels, Centre de Flacq, where takes place the bulk of commercial activities of the district, and Palmar, where other significant hotels can be found.It is therefore near the main commercial centres of the region, and the bus station among others.

The village, an authentic neighbourhood which maintained an old-fashioned charm, is relatively free of traffic jams and other city-life-related stress, offering typical Mauritian food including “Roti Curry”, “Gateaux piment and Chana Puri”, “Dilo Coco” and many more. Adepts of slow living, the movement which encourages one to detach oneself from industrialisation to enjoy life to its fullest, will therefore be able to find their happiness in the authentic and genuine village lifestyle. They will, however, not be steered out of their comfort zone if they are still looking for a touch of high living, between the villas and other luxury apartments which can be found there.

The pristine 10km-long beach at BELLE MARE, a white-sand beach bordered by casuarina trees, is one of the island’s most beautiful – and has a selection of dazzling hotels to match. The name means “beautiful sea” so it’s no surprise that the east’s most famous dive site, The Pass, lies just offshore. Belle Mare village itself is a surprisingly sleepy farming settlement interspersed by a few designer shops.

It is of course not a coincidence that many popular beach resorts in Mauritius are located in this area. Conveniently protected by the coral reef, Belle Mare beach is a shallow bay with fine white sand and crystal clear water, and parts of it offers some of the best snorkelling in Mauritius east coast waters.

Thanks to the prescence of Aquacity CO LTD which offer several water sports activities including Underseawalk, Parasailing and Tube Ride around the south part of the public beach.

The beach can get quite busy during peak season, especially in the weekends when many locals venture out for a day at the beach, but due to the sheer size of Belle Mare beach, it never really becomes a problem.

Visiting this splendid village is truly a lifetime experience.
